ABOUT ME
I am a Kenyan singer-songwriter, producer, performer, humanitarian, and environmental advocate whose work exists at the intersection of music, storytelling, rhythm, and social transformation. Drawing influence from Afro-fusion, Benga, hip-hop, reggae, soul, and both traditional and contemporary African music, I create emotionally layered work rooted in identity, transition, spirituality, and my own lived experience. Born in Nairobi in the early 90s, I was raised in Mathare, one of the city’s largest informal settlements. I was orphaned at a young age, a profound experience that deeply shaped my commitment to youth development, social justice, and collective action. My early development through the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) introduced me to the transformative power of art, collaboration, and creativity as tools for change. My journey into music began early. At just 11 years old, I was discovered and invited to perform at a children’s festival in Norway, marking the beginning of an artistic path that would later take me across Africa, Europe, and North America. During my youth, I also began performing music for sick children in hospital wards in Nairobi, facilitating music therapy sessions that brought comfort, hope, and emotional healing. It was through these meaningful experiences that the foundation for Maramaso was born.”
